Intel Atom Dual-Core Processors Explored, D510 and D525

Intel’s Atom line of processors got their first intro to the world with the new mini laptop computers known as netbook’s. At the time of Atom’s release it was criticized rightfully so as being way to slow. Now almost 2 years since Atom’s inception Intel is offering up more powerful versions of the low-voltage chips with 2-Cores.
The new processors the 1.66Ghz Intel Atom D510 and 1.8GHz Atom D525 got officially announced at Computex 2010. The new processors both come with the same amount of cores 2 and threads 4 as well as Intel Hyper-threading Technology. The only difference from the specifications sheets of these processors is the D525 is clocked a tad higher than the D510. See the Intel pages for the D510 and D525 for the more technical rundown. To debrief everything about these processors for you, they are both going to be much better than the original Atom processors.
The D525 hasn’t been benchmarked just yet but the D510 chip has and it did very well, see PC Mag’s review. When the D510 was reviewed to give it some credit was paired with Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics while the competition all had Nvidia graphics which do perform better on graphics intensive tests. A D510 or D525 if paired with Nvidia ION 2 graphics could create the perfect netbook which can do multimedia as well a regular everyday tasks.
These new processors should start showing up real soon in netbook’s and hopefully some tablet devices. Intel in 2011 is looking to keep their number one position in the processor market.
