What You Should Know About Nvidia ION Netbook’s

Netbook’s are supposed to be mini-laptops but many on the market don’t perform even close to what a full-sized laptop. Nvidia noticed this and created a graphics solution to improve the netbook’s performance. What they came up with is Nvidia ION and Nvidia ION 2 and currently there are multiple netbook’s out there that feature the Nvidia graphics chip’s. A Nvidia ION netbook will cost more than the average netbook, is the techonlogy worth the extra money? In our opinion Yes it really is!
One of the big things the Nvidia ION chip does that every netbook owner needed is enhanced HD Youtube video playback. The Nvidia ION gives optimum performance in this aspect, if you have netbook with the ION chip you know full 1080p HD playback is night-and-day when compared to non-ION netbooks. There is no jittery playback like what you will get from the integrated Intel GMA graphics.
The other thing the ION improves for netbook’s is gaming. To be clear a netbook just won’t be able to play a game like Crysis but it can play video games like World of Warcraft. An ION backed netbook enhances the graphics where an Intel netbook would usually be jittery and well just not very fun to play. Gaming on a ION netbook is very smooth and you average more than playable frame-rates, even for Call Of Duty 4.
The ION netbook can also run the cool effects that you will find on Windows Vista and Windows 7 full-versions. The cool effects we’re speaking of are the Aero features which allow for you to flip through the applications that are running when you use Vista and for 7 you get to preview programs. Your not limited strictly to Windows XP with a ION netbook, you can run Win 7 Home Premium and Vista if you don’t have 7(Vista isn’t as good as 7).
The video encoding and decoding performance that you will see on a ION backed netbook are on average about 2-10x the speed you can get from a non-ION netbook. This is good news if you ever plan on converting videos on the go and don’t want to carry around your big laptop computer.
I think you get the idea by now your entire computing experience with a netbook is better when using a ION netbook. Right now the best netbook that features the latest Nvidia ION chip the ION 2 is the ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1201PN.
