Dell Inspiron Duo Convertible Netbook Tablet PC With A Twist

The big IDF convention is going on right now, IDF is short for Intel Developer Forum, basically a big convention where Intel and their friends go show off cool new tech running on Intel chips. Well at IDF 2010 tablets are the big thing but Dell really stole yesterdays show with their new Dell Inspiron Duo device.
The Dell Inspiron Duo can be categorized as a Netvertible or Convertible Netbook Tablet PC. The way the Dell Duo works is it’s a netbook when you need the physical keyboard and by rotating the screen you can turn the 10-inch netbook into a 10-inch Windows 7 Tablet PC. All of this tech isn’t really that new but the method of transition between the netbook and tablet phases is what’s really new. 10.1″ Convertible Tablet PC have been done before but not like this.
The Dell Inspiron Duo is set to feature the 1.5GHz Dual Core Intel Atom N550 processor. As well as 1GB or 2GB of DDR3 memory and a HDD storage drive(no capacity sizes were announced). The Duo will feature the normal I/O connectivity that you would normally find on a netbook of it’s size. The device during the presentation showcased a custom UI that makes Windows 7 more touch friendly(i.e. bigger icons). Dell didn’t exactly let people have any 1-on-1 time with the Duo during the presentation so it’s hard to really say anything more about the device.
The price and official release date are kinda fuzzy, the presenter for Dell at IDF 2010 said they will launch this hybrid netbook by the end of the year but didn’t give any specific date. Hopefully Dell will be good enough to release more details on this very interesting portable device in coming months.
