Just unveiled is the first Sony laptop that will be rocking one the new AMD Brazos Fusion APU’s. The Sony VAIO Y Series when launched will be powered by the 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 dual-core APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) which by design also comes with the AMD Radeon HD 6310 integrated graphics solution.
Sony will match the low-power AMD Fusion APU with a 11.6-inch LED backlit widescreen display, which features power saving technology without losing anything in picture quality. Sony claims that the new VAIO Y Series will last up to 6 hours with the default screen settings and with max. brightness engaged they claim up to 5.5 hours. Both numbers aren’t too shabby for a DirectX 11 ultra-portable.
The other features included with the 3.23 pound VAIO Y Series ultra-portable are as follows; Stereo Bluetooth for wireless interaction with other Bluetooth devices, HDMI output port for your HDTV, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a Sony Assist button for quick and easy access to the VAIO Care maintenance programs and of course Windows 7 operating system.
Sony will be opening up shop on this page on their Sony Style webstore for pre-orders starting on January 9th. They do plan to offer the VAIO Y Series laptop in Pink and in Silver through their site and select retailers for about $550 next month.
