Google Chrome OS Computers Confrimed For Coming Real Soon By Google
Posted on 29. Mar, 2011 by Neil in Netbooks
Confirmed today by Pocket-lint is the impending release of the first Google Chrome OS powered computers into the marketplace. The machines, no specifics on which kinds, will be launching this second quarter of 2011 (June possible month) according to the new report which cites Google as the source.
Previously Google had made available some 60,000 Chrome OS notebooks which were named Google Cr-48. These new computers aren’t likely to carry the Google name directly but they will utilize the new Internet-focused operating system.
To give a glimpse at some possible makers we can look no further than Google’s own words from the Chrome OS event in late 2010. Google at the time stated for the record that Acer and Samsung would be the first companies to launch machines (netbook’s) in 2011. The slide followed that declaration by stating other manufacturers would launch machines in the following months after Acer and Samsung.
Another company that could launch after Acer and Samsung might have been exposed earlier this month. Previous rumors that we had told you about fingered Sony as working on their own VAIO 11.6″ Chrome OS netbook. That VAIO netbook was detailed as having a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 ARM based processor powering it as well as some other details but no release date or pricing was available.
However regarding the impending machines being reported right now Pocket-lint can only tell us that their source has told them pricing will range between $250 and $600 on the Chrome OS machines but Pocket-lint does caution that those prices aren’t manufacturer retail prices just rough estimates. Agree strongly with Ray. The average laptop cost is about $250.00 . I laugh when I see the high prices idiots pay for the brand names. Would you honestly pay $50 for a $25 dollar hammer? Does the $50 hammer do anymore than the $25 hammer? Laptops are just tools, nothing more nothing less!
Add double the price if marketing/sales types are involved.
